by

1 Corinthians 11:17-34;   James 2:1-17 Key verse: 1 Cor 11:20-21 Big idea: The communion meal is meant to be something we share in equally together. If there’s discrimination, it’s not communion at all. There are two applications. Firstly, our communion ‘meals’ tend to be very personal introspective affairs – this isn’t what Paul had in mind. “Blurring the Lines” (21/6/2020 @ 5pm)

by

1 Corinthians 11:2-16;  Genesis 1:26-29, 2:18-25 Key verse: 1 Corinthians 11:10 Big idea: This is an extremely difficult passage to understand. What is clear is that God’s designed a difference in the sexes: men are worship leaders, women are helpers. We should express this in our gatherings. Sermon Link

“Pagan Parties” (7th June 2020 @ 5pm)

by

Exodus 32:1-20;  1 Corinthians 10:1-22 Key verse: 1 Corinthians 10:21 Big idea: Paul warns the Corinthians to flee from pagan idolatry, because it is incompatible with Christian fellowship and arouses God’s anger. by

Isaiah 40:12-17;  1 Corinthians 2:6-16 Key verse: 1 Corinthians 2:9 Big idea: Non-Christians don’t and can’t understand God’s nature and plans. We can because we have the Spirit who has revealed it for us. Therefore we shouldn’t be worried when non-Christians make wrong judgements about us.

by

Romans 14:14-17;  1 Corinthians 8 Key verse: 1 Corinthians 8:13 Big idea: Idols are nothing more than a concept, and so we are free to eat the meat sacrificed to them. However, not everyone truly believes this, and so eating food sacrificed to an idol is still idolatrous for them. So we don’t encourage them […]

by

Isaiah 29:13-16, Jeremiah 9:23-26; 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5 Key verse: 1 Corinthians 1:24 Big idea: On every level the world will see the gospel as weak and foolish. Yet God has used it to bring salvation for those he’s called. This means that all glory and boasting needs to go to God.

“Marriage and Singleness” (12/1/2020 @ 5pm)

by

Matthew 22:23-33;  1 Corinthians 7:25-40 Key verse: 1 Corinthians 7:38 Big idea: God demands our complete devotion. You can do that in whatever situation you’re in, but it’s a whole lot easier as a single. What’s your attitude to singleness and marriage?
